John Kyalo Munyithya’s story is a remarkable testament to perseverance and resilience, rising from humble beginnings in Kyuso to becoming a distinguished banker with a PhD. On April 19, 2024, Munyithya was awarded a PhD in Business Administration from the Paris School of Business in France, marking a significant achievement in his life and career.
Munyithya’s educational journey was fraught with challenges. After his father passed away, he was raised by his mother, a peasant who struggled to pay his school fees. Despite passing his KCPE exams in 1993, financial constraints forced him to repeat Standard 8. His mother sold the family’s only cows to pay for his secondary education at Tseikuru Secondary School and later sold land to finance his studies at Strathmore University.
Munyithya’s determination to succeed drove him to work as an accountant at a local hospital while pursuing his university education. After graduating, he secured a job in the banking industry, where he has built a successful career over the past 20 years. Today, he serves as a financial management specialist at the Eastern and South African Trade and Development Bank, the financial arm of COMESA.
Reflecting on his journey, Munyithya emphasizes that determination and courage are key to achieving one’s goals, regardless of background. In addition to his PhD, he holds an MBA from USIU, a Bachelor of Commerce, a CPA (K) qualification from Strathmore University, and a diploma in banking from Galilee University in Israel.
Munyithya’s story serves as an inspiration, demonstrating that with commitment and hard work, individuals can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
