The 62nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kitui Branch was held today at the Multipurpose Hall in Kitui town. The event, graced by key dignitaries, focused on critical issues affecting the welfare and working conditions of teachers in the region.
The Branch Executive Committee (BEC) warmly welcomed the members, with Kitui KNUT Secretary, Mr. Simon Ndingo, delivering the keynote address. In his speech, Mr. Ndingo highlighted the branch’s significant achievements over the past year, including the hosting of the post-World Teachers’ Day event at Kitui Teachers College. The event, which was part of the national celebrations for the Eastern Region, was hailed as a great success by stakeholders, teachers, and the national office.
“I sincerely thank the National Office, particularly the Secretary General, for granting us the honor of hosting such a momentous occasion. The positive feedback we received exceeded expectations, and the event was a tremendous success,” Mr. Ndingo said.
The AGM provided a platform for teachers and union leaders to deliberate on the challenges facing their profession, including issues related to welfare, working conditions, and the protection of members’ rights. “We are committed to addressing these challenges head-on, with the ultimate goal of improving the teaching profession in our region,” Mr. Ndingo added.
The meeting was attended by KNUT Secretary General Mr. Collins Oyuu, Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu, and former Kitui Governor Hon. Charity Ngilu, among other stakeholders. The leaders called for open, honest, and constructive engagement to chart a course forward for the betterment of teachers in Kitui and beyond.
