KUPPET Boss Mr Mutia Urges Kitui Teachers to Continue with Strike

KUPPET (Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers) chairman Mr. Mutia has urged teachers in Kitui to stay out of classrooms until the government meets their demands. Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Mutia emphasized the need for solidarity among educators, stating that returning to work without a satisfactory resolution would undermine their efforts to secure better working conditions and pay.

This call comes even as KNUT (Kenya National Union of Teachers), the other major teachers’ union, has called off their strike. KNUT’s decision was based on ongoing negotiations with the government, which they believe are progressing towards a favorable outcome. However, KUPPET remains skeptical, with Mr. Mutia asserting that the government has yet to address critical issues such as salary increments, better healthcare, and improved working conditions.

The ongoing teachers’ strike has significantly disrupted learning in Kitui, affecting thousands of students. With both unions adopting different stances, the education sector in Kitui faces a period of uncertainty, as teachers await a conclusive resolution to their grievances.

The government has urged patience, promising to address the concerns raised by both unions. However, with KUPPET maintaining a firm stance, it remains to be seen how long the impasse will continue and what impact it will have on the county’s education system.
