Kwa Vonza MCA, Hon. Mark Ndingo, officially launched the construction of a sand dam at Kathokoe Stream, Ilika, on Wednesday afternoon. The site handover marks the beginning of a significant project aimed at enhancing water conservation and climate resilience in the area.
The sand dam project is part of a broader initiative funded by the World Bank in partnership with the Kitui County government. It falls under the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLOCA) project, which is focused on combating the effects of climate change through sustainable local interventions.
During the ceremony, Hon. Ndingo emphasized the importance of the project in addressing water scarcity and supporting the community’s adaptation to climate change. He noted that the sand dam would not only conserve water but also improve agricultural productivity and livelihoods in the region.
The project reflects the continued commitment of both the World Bank and the county government to invest in climate-resilient infrastructure that benefits local communities directly. The sand dam at Kathokoe Stream is expected to be a model for similar initiatives across the region.
