Machakos County has launched the “One Acre SMART Agriculture Initiative,” a visionary program aimed at revolutionizing farming in the region through modern, sustainable practices.
Hon. Anne Kiusya, Speaker of the Machakos County Assembly, joined top leaders including Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka, Wiper Party Leader, and Governor Wavinya Ndeti at the Christian Impact Mission World Empowerment Centre in Yatta for the initiative’s official launch.
Spearheaded by Bishop Dr. Titus Masika of Christian Impact Mission, the “One Acre SMART Agriculture Initiative” is designed to help small-scale farmers maximize crop yields on a single acre by embracing technology-driven and data-focused agricultural techniques. The program aligns with Machakos County’s strategic goals to enhance food security, improve resilience against climate change, and boost the region’s economy.
In her address, Speaker Kiusya underscored her commitment to supporting legislative measures that promote agri-business and smart farming. “This initiative provides our farmers with the tools to increase productivity and adapt to modern practices, paving the way for sustainable agriculture,” she noted.
Several Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) were also present, including Deputy Speaker Hon. Steve Mwanthi (Ekalakala), Hon. Mbili Ndawa (Matuu), Hon. Fredrick Kitetu (Ikombe), and Hon. Francis Kavyu (Kinanie), among others. The event saw a strong show of support from local leaders, demonstrating a united commitment to fostering innovation in agriculture.
As the “One Acre SMART Agriculture Initiative” takes root in Machakos, the county envisions this pioneering program as a catalyst for agricultural transformation across Kenya, equipping farmers with the tools and knowledge to thrive in a tech-driven agricultural landscape.
