Members of the Machakos County Assembly have unexpectedly dropped their impeachment motion against hard working Speaker Anne Kiusya. This decision follows a closed-door meeting on October 31, reportedly led by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, which appears to have significantly swayed the assembly members’ stance on the matter.
The motion, initially led by Kinanie MCA Hon. Kavyu and Mbiuni MCA Hon. Peter Kilonzo, sought to address alleged leadership lapses by Speaker Kiusya. However, after a late-night discussion with the governor, followed by a “Kamukunji” meeting—a traditional gathering for deliberation without formal procedures—the assembly members rescinded their position on the impeachment.
Critics argue that the assembly’s move reflects a growing dynamic where the executive branch, led by Governor Ndeti, may be exerting undue influence over the county assembly, the speaker was being accused of shelding the Governor from angry Members.
Many citizens feel that the assembly, entrusted with safeguarding the interests of Machakos residents, must act independently to hold the executive accountable.
With the impeachment motion now shelved, the county leadership have opted to work together for the sake of MACHAKOS residents
