Yatta Kwa Vonza Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Mark Nding’o has strongly opposed the ongoing impeachment motion against Kitui County Finance Executive Member Peter Kilonzo. Speaking exclusively to TCD Digital, Hon. Nding’o termed the move as a politically motivated scheme aimed at destabilizing the administration of Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe.
“We will stop it. The impeachment is not about Tangawizi [referring to Peter Kilonzo], but is targeting to destabilize the government of Dr. Julius Makau Malombe,” Hon. Nding’o said. “Those driving this motion want to test the waters, with plans to eventually target the governor.”
Hon. Nding’o emphasized the need for unity and focus in delivering services to Kitui residents, urging his colleagues in the county assembly to prioritize development over political wrangles.
The impeachment motion against Kilonzo has sparked mixed reactions among county leaders, with some supporting it on grounds of accountability, while others, like Hon. Nding’o, view it as a plot to undermine Governor Malombe’s leadership.
Governor Malombe has yet to publicly comment on the matter, but the political tensions surrounding his administration are expected to escalate if the motion proceeds.
This development comes amidst growing scrutiny of county governments’ financial management, with Kitui County under the spotlight for its fiscal policies. As the debate continues, the residents of Kitui await a resolution that will foster stability and progress in the county.
