A search and rescue mission at Thua River ended tragically after the body of Sila Matili was retrieved. The operation, led by the Kitui County Department of Emergency and Disaster Management, the Red Cross, and local security agencies, brought an emotional close to the days-long effort to find Matili.
The rescue team, accompanied by Mutha Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Dominic Mwamisi, thanked the Red Cross divers for their bravery, the community members for their relentless dedication, and the security agencies for their support throughout the operation.
Hon. Mwamisi expressed his condolences to the family and urged the public to exercise caution around swollen rivers, especially during the rainy season. The recovered body was transported to Mutomo Mortuary for preservation.
Sadly, even as efforts concluded at Thua River, another report of a missing man was received from the Kataa area. The search for the individual is scheduled to resume tomorrow.
This incident highlights the need for vigilance and community collaboration in mitigating risks posed by natural disasters.
