Muthangya Mutua Launches Migwani Pirates FC “The first club to offer payment to players in Mwingi West”

In a move for local football, Muthangya Mutua, a well-known football enthusiast, has launched Migwani Pirates FC, the first football club in the Mwingi area to offer allowances to its players. This initiative is set to elevate the standards of football in the region by rewarding players for exceptional performances, including Man of the Match (MOTM), top scorers, and those providing assists. The MOTM award will be determined through player votes, fostering camaraderie and competition.

The team debuted on Sunday, December 8th, playing against Kaikungu FC at Migwani AIC grounds. Despite a narrow 2-1 loss, Mutua lauded the team’s efforts, especially since it was their first match together. Migwani Pirates FC is set to play two more matches before the end of the year, with Kabana FC and Mumoni in the pipeline as potential opponents.

A Visionary Approach to Football

Mutua’s football journey began in 2018 when he founded YoungStars FC, a team that competed in the Nguna Cup and organized a local league with cash prizes. Although the team ceased operations in 2019 due to challenges, Mutua remained committed to nurturing local talent. His efforts included leading Itoloni FC to play at Nairobi’s prestigious Camp Toyoyo Turf, marking a milestone for Kitui County football.

Migwani Pirates FC represents a new chapter in Mutua’s vision to develop grassroots football. By introducing incentives for creativity, teamwork, and skill—such as rewarding players for assists, passes, and goals—he aims to inspire players to elevate their game. Additionally, the club plans to introduce local player transfers, creating income opportunities for players and reducing dependency on major clubs.

Community-Centric Football Management

Mutua’s vision extends beyond the pitch. He seeks to make Migwani Pirates FC a community-driven entity where fans and locals can contribute to management decisions, including player suggestions. “We want this to be a communal effort that inspires pride and ownership among the people,” he said.

He also dreams of seeing more players from the Kamba community rise to prominence in top-flight football, both locally and internationally. Clubs like Yanga FC, TP Mazembe, and teams in the Kenya Premier League (KPL) are his benchmarks for future aspirations.

Appreciation and Call to Action

Mutua expressed gratitude to Hon. Nguna for his support of local football, citing tournaments like the Nguna Cup and the upcoming sports academy in Kiio as critical to talent development. He encouraged the community to suggest promising players and support the club’s management as they work towards nurturing and showcasing local talent.

To support Migwani Pirates FC or suggest players, Mutua can be contacted at 0735171038. With this bold initiative, he hopes to lay the foundation for a sustainable football ecosystem where local players thrive and gain recognition on larger platforms.

Migwani Pirates FC is not just a team; it’s a movement aiming to transform the football scene in Kitui and beyond.
