Kitui Central is witnessing a political uproar stirred by a vibrant and outspoken politician known as “Mweene Mavati,” a nickname given to him by local youth. The name, which translates to “the owner of iron sheets,” references his various monikers like Galsheet and Dumu Zas, all associated with roofing materials. This politician previously served as the Chief of Staff under Governor Charity Ngilu but was dismissed in 2021 after a fallout with the Governor.
Instead of retreating quietly, the former Chief of Staff made headlines by organizing a loud political rally within the Governor’s office compound. During this rally, he boldly claimed that Governor Ngilu’s administration was metaphorically “roofed” with his contributions, suggesting his pivotal role in her 2017 election victory. He vowed not to leave his contributions behind if he was to exit, symbolically threatening to pull the support structure away from under Ngilu’s administration.
This dramatic declaration has captured the attention of many in Kitui Central and beyond, sparking debates, political alliances, and the influence of youth mobilization in local politics. As the story unfolds, the political landscape in the region is set for potential shifts and realignments.
