Mwingi Central MP, Gideon Mulyungi, is in the spotlight over allegations of engaging in what some are calling “dirty politics” to sway voters from neighboring constituencies.
Sources have accused the Wiper Party legislator of using the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) to grade roads along the borders of Mwingi North and Mwingi West constituencies. This, they claim, is a strategic move to attract voters from these areas into Mwingi Central, despite his own constituency reportedly having several impassable roads that require urgent attention.
Reports suggest that the Greedy , diminutive and controversial Mp has been offering bursaries and other forms of support to residents from neighboring constituencies while encouraging them to transfer their voter registration to Mwingi Central. According to locals, Mulyungi has been explicit in requesting them to change their registration status to bolster his political base within his constituency.
Residents of Mwingi Central, however, noted that while they benefit from the services and support of leaders from their constituency and beyond, including bursary support from Mwingi West MP CNN & Mwingi North MP eng Malili, they are not pressured to transfer their votes.
Efforts to reach the MPs from Mwingi North and Mwingi West for comment were unsuccessful, as calls to their phones went unanswered.
These accusations come as Kenyans prepare for the next general election, with voter registration and political strategies coming under increased scrutiny. If confirmed, Mulyungi’s actions may raise ethical questions about the use of public resources for political advantage and the implications of such maneuvers on constituency relations and service delivery.
