NCIC Urge Kitui to Maintain Peace

Kitui County, – On Tuesday, officials from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), led by Commissioner Dr. Danvas Makori, visited Kitui County for a high-level meeting with local security leaders. The discussions were followed by a press conference where calls for peace and unity were echoed by the Commissioner and local authorities.

Addressing the media, Commissioner Dr. Makori emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the region, especially in light of rising tensions between local communities and neighboring areas. “We urge the people of Kitui to continue upholding peace and refrain from any actions that could lead to conflict,” Makori stated, adding that the commission is keen on promoting harmony in the county.

During the briefing, Dr. Makori also disclosed that the commission has issued summons to several leaders from Tana River County, who are suspected of inciting violence. The leaders are under investigation following the recent vandalism of Kona Kaliti Police Station, which has further fueled tensions between the two regions.

Kitui County Commissioner, Mr. Kipchumba Ruto, echoed these sentiments, urging the local community to avoid confrontation and keep away from Kitui South Game Reserve, which has been a flashpoint of recent conflicts. He reassured residents that the government is working tirelessly to resolve the ongoing issue of camel herders encroaching on Kitui land. “We are taking active measures to remove camels that have illegally entered Kitui County, and we ask for patience as this is being addressed,” Ruto remarked.
