Former Kitui Senator, Hon. David Musila, has urged current leaders to push aggressively for the completion of stalled projects in the region. Speaking at a burial in Mwingi West, Musila emphasized the need for decisive action, citing his own experience in advocating for infrastructure development.
Addressing Mwingi West MP, Hon. Charles Nguna, Musila called for a large-scale demonstration to pressure the government to complete the tarmacking of the Mbondoni to Migwani section of the Kitui-Kibwezi road. He recounted his own efforts in securing the construction of the Kibwezi-Kitui road, highlighting the effectiveness of direct action.
“Ask MP Makali Mulu what we did to have the government tarmac Kibwezi road,” Musila said. “I led a demonstration in Kibwezi. I was teargassed and beaten. President Uhuru Kenyatta saw it and called me to the State House with leaders from Kitui. After three months, the president came to launch the construction of the Kibwezi-Kitui Road.”
Musila challenged the younger leaders to follow suit. “You are young. Why can’t you do it to push for the tarmacking of the Mbondoni road?” he urged.
MP Charles Nguna has been actively advocating for the completion of the stalled project, seeking statements from parliament and holding numerous meetings with the Cabinet Secretary for Roads. Despite these efforts, the government has yet to allocate a budget for the road’s completion.
Musila’s call to action underscores a belief that direct, peaceful demonstrations are necessary to spur government action on critical infrastructure projects in Kitui.
