KITUI,– On Friday, July 26th, 2024, the revival of the Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair was celebrated as a significant milestone for Kitui County, offering a vital platform for exhibitors, farmers, and innovators to exchange ideas and experiences. The event, held at Ithookwe Showground, was inaugurated by Kitui Governor H.E. Dr. Julius Makau Malombe and attended by various dignitaries, including County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya.
Speaker Kinengo lauded Governor Malombe’s administration for breathing new life into the fair, emphasizing its role in enhancing the livelihoods of Kitui citizens. He called for unity among elected leaders to bolster the county’s economic development and stressed the County Assembly’s commitment to crafting agricultural policies aimed at economic growth.
“The County Executive must continue to nurture a supportive environment for entrepreneurs and innovators,” Speaker Kinengo urged, rallying support for the county’s vision of prosperity.
Governor Malombe reiterated his dedication to fostering an enabling environment for farmers by providing essential resources such as certified seeds, constructing sand dams, and drilling boreholes to facilitate irrigated agriculture. He encouraged attendees to leverage the fair to exchange knowledge and adopt climate-smart agricultural practices.
The theme of the 2024 show, “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture for Food and Nutrition Security and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Growth,” highlights the county’s focus on sustainable agricultural development. The event attracted hundreds of exhibitors from diverse sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, and education, demonstrating the region’s multifaceted economic potential.
Among the notable attendees were Kitui County Deputy Governor H.E. Augustine Wambua Kanani, Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu, Kitui County Commissioner Mr. Kipchumba Ruto, and various county and national government officials. The show underscores Kitui County’s commitment to innovation and collaboration in driving economic and agricultural advancements.
