Tseikuru Ward Farmers Set to Benefit as County Government and ELRP Launch Sacco Registration

In an escalated development for farmers in Kitui County, the Tseikuru Ward Farmers Savings and Credit Co-operative Society Limited was officially launched today, marking a new era of financial empowerment for the agricultural community in Mwingi North Sub-County.

The event, presided over by Kitui’s Chief Officer for Agriculture and Fisheries, Madam Gladys Kivoto, saw the handover of Sacco’s certificate of registration. During her address, Madam Kivoto underscored the Sacco’s potential to transform the economic landscape of Tseikuru Ward and the broader Mwingi region.

“This Sacco is not just a piece of paper or a registration number. It represents a unified front where farmers can collectively save, borrow, and invest,” Madam Kivoto emphasized. She highlighted the importance of the Sacco as a vehicle for farmers to access loans for agricultural inputs, invest in modern farming techniques, and ultimately benefit from matching grants under the forthcoming National Agricultural Value Chain Development (NAVCD) Project.

The launch comes as the Emergency Locust Response Program (ELRP) nears its conclusion in December. Madam Kivoto encouraged farmers to unite under the Sacco structure, stressing that collective action would open doors to greater financial opportunities and ensure the sustainability of their agricultural practices.

The event also had the participation of Mr. Musomba, Director of Cooperatives, along with ELRP officers and the area Ward Administrator. The turnout was impressive, with over 400 farmer groups in attendance, reflecting the strong interest and commitment within the community to embrace this new initiative.

Madam Kivoto reiterated the unwavering support of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe for the county’s farmers, assuring them of continued efforts to empower the agricultural sector and promote long-term benefits for the farming community.

This initiative is seen as a crucial step toward bolstering the financial resilience of farmers in the region, enabling them to invest in their futures and contribute to the overall economic growth of Kitui County.
