The National Liberal Party (NLP) has announced plans to open more party branch offices in Kitui South and Kitui East as it intensifies its grassroots mobilization across the county amid growing speculation over a possible Wiper–UDA merger.
NLP Party Leader Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli said the party is committed to strengthening its presence across Kitui County, where it has already made significant inroads. Within a few months, the party has registered more than 130,000 members in Kitui alone.
“We are focused on building a people-driven movement. Our goal is to register over 200,000 members in Kitui County and at least 400,000 in the larger Ukambani region by June 2026,” Dr. Kyalo Muli said during a press briefing.
The move comes as the Wiper Democratic Movement battles public backlash and internal resistance over claims of possible political alignment with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The National Liberal Party has been actively setting up structures across Kitui Central, Kitui Rural, and Mwingi regions, promising a fresh alternative to the traditional political order.
With the 2027 General Election looming, NLP’s rapid expansion is expected to further shake up Kitui’s political landscape.
