Yatta Kwa Vonza Member of the Kitui County Assembly and political analyst Mark Nding’o has strongly criticized the growing use of hired goons in Kenya’s political space, urging leaders to embrace tolerance and democratic values. Speaking during an interview on Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC)’s Eye on Politics program, Nding’o warned that the country risks sliding back into a dangerous era of politically instigated violence.
He called on the national government to take the lead in promoting peaceful political engagement, stressing that leadership must set the standard for the rest of the country. According to Nding’o, fostering political tolerance is critical to safeguarding democracy, and leaders should encourage dialogue instead of resorting to intimidation and disruption of dissenting voices.
The outspoken analyst further cautioned against what he described as an “unholy alliance” of rival groups using goons to silence critics, noting that such practices undermine public trust and national unity. Nding’o maintained that Kenya must reject these regressive tactics and instead nurture a political culture built on respect, accountability, and the rule of law.
