Governor hopeful Nicholas Mulila Calls for Lasting Solutions to Kitui’s Water Crisis, Criticizes Politics of Empty Promises

Kitui gubernatorial hopeful CPA Nicholas Mulila has renewed his call for sustainable solutions to the county’s persistent water shortages, arguing that residents deserve reliable access to clean water rather than political rhetoric.

In a strongly worded statement, Mulila said water remains one of the most pressing challenges facing communities across Kitui, insisting that development should be measured by tangible improvements in people’s lives.

“If promises were water, Kitui would never be thirsty,” he remarked, emphasizing that access to clean and safe water should be treated as a fundamental right rather than a campaign slogan.

Mulila said that from Mwingi North to Mutomo, the county requires practical and long-term investments in water infrastructure to ease the burden on residents who continue to struggle to access the essential resource.

The gubernatorial hopeful also criticized what he described as a culture of complacency and self-serving leadership, accusing some politicians of prioritizing personal and family interests over public service. He argued that leadership should be judged by integrity, accountability and the ability to deliver meaningful development.

According to Mulila, public office should be entrusted to individuals with a proven record of responsibility and commitment to serving the people.

As political activities ahead of the 2027 General Election continue to gather momentum, water access is expected to remain one of the key issues shaping the debate over Kitui’s future leadership. Supporters of Mulila say his focus on practical development priorities reflects the kind of leadership needed to address the county’s long-standing challenges.
