The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has unveiled the official roadmap for the 2027 General Election, outlining key deadlines for political parties, independent candidates, nominations and campaigns. The electoral agency has directed all political parties intending to participate in the polls to submit their membership lists and primary election schedules by March 16, 2027.
In a statement, IEBC Election Operations Committee Chairperson Ann Nderitu said political parties must also display the names of aspirants contesting party primaries before the March 16 deadline. She added that all party primaries and internal dispute resolution processes must be concluded by May 9, 2027, warning that candidates who fail to meet the commission’s timelines will not be cleared to contest in the General Election.
The commission further announced that individuals seeking to contest as independent candidates must have resigned from any registered political party by May 9, 2027, at least three months before the election. Nomination of both party-sponsored and independent candidates will take place between May 29 and June 11, 2027, with nomination papers to be submitted to the IEBC Chairperson during the prescribed hours at designated venues.
IEBC also stated that nomination disputes must be filed by June 12, 2027, and will be determined within ten days of submission. Meanwhile, the official campaign period will run from May 29 to August 7, 2027, before the mandatory 48-hour campaign silence ahead of the August 10, 2027 General Election. The commission urged all candidates and political parties to strictly adhere to the electoral calendar to ensure a smooth and credible election process.
