The political temperature in Kitui west rose a notch higher this week after Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) Commissioner Ben Muasya launched a sharp attack on Kitui West Member of Parliament Edith Nyenze, accusing her of failing to effectively represent the constituency and deliver meaningful development.
Speaking during an interview with TCD Digital, Muasya alleged that the MP had not demonstrated adequate leadership in advancing the interests of Kitui West residents. He argued that her focus had shifted toward activities he considered routine government responsibilities instead of pursuing long-term development initiatives.
Muasya claimed that Nyenze had mainly been visible during relief food distribution exercises and government visits to the area, arguing that such activities should not be presented as personal achievements. According to him, elected leaders should prioritise policy influence and development lobbying aimed at bringing sustainable projects to their constituencies.
The CRA commissioner further accused the legislator of publicly criticising the national government while simultaneously associating herself with government programmes and activities taking place in the constituency. He questioned what he termed as inconsistency in her political approach and leadership style.
In his remarks, Muasya also alleged that the MP lacked the capacity to effectively lobby for development opportunities within Parliament. He claimed that he had at one point attempted to guide her on parliamentary processes and engagement channels in efforts to strengthen representation for Kitui West.
He further asserted that projects currently underway or already completed within the constituency had resulted from his own efforts and lobbying rather than interventions initiated by the area MP. Muasya maintained that stronger representation would have translated into more visible gains for residents.
The exchange now adds to the growing political tensions being witnessed in Kitui County, where leaders have increasingly engaged in public criticism over development records and political alignments. As the debate intensifies, residents of Kitui West are likely to closely watch whether the focus shifts from political exchanges to service delivery and development priorities and are looking for better representation
