A delegation from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), led by County Statistics Officer Joseph Kimani, on Monday paid a courtesy call to the Kitui County Executive for Agriculture and Livestock, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, ahead of the 2026 Kenya Census of Agriculture (KCA).
The nationwide exercise will collect data on agricultural holdings, including land tenure and use, crop production, livestock, aquaculture, and fisheries, to generate reliable information for evidence-based planning, policy formulation, food security initiatives, and investment decisions in the agricultural sector.
Dr. Mbaya welcomed the initiative, noting that the census will provide critical data to guide agricultural development and improve service delivery to farmers, assuring the KNBS officers of the County Government’s support during the exercise and further urged farmers and other stakeholders to cooperate with enumerators by providing accurate information.
The exercise aligns with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s manifesto, which emphasizes data-driven planning and sustainable agricultural transformation to enhance food security and improve livelihoods across Kitui County.
