Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has publicly appealed to Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna to return to the party, saying he still considers him a valued member despite his growing association with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Speaking during a function in Mwingi, Kalonzo said, “You’re still a Wiper MP. I still love you. Please come back, I need you,” in remarks that have sparked fresh political debate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo described Nguna’s apparent alignment with UDA as a significant setback for the Wiper Party, acknowledging that the legislator’s departure would be a major political loss, particularly in Kitui County where Wiper has traditionally enjoyed overwhelming support. The Wiper leader maintained that the party remains strong but emphasized that it values leaders who have contributed to its growth over the years.
MP Charles Nguna has recently been seen attending several events alongside President William Ruto and senior UDA leaders, fueling speculation that he is preparing to formally leave Wiper. His increasing cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration has generated mixed reactions among supporters, with some welcoming the move as a strategy to attract development while others view it as a betrayal of the party that sponsored him to Parliament.
The latest appeal by Kalonzo comes at a time when political realignments are intensifying across the Ukambani region as leaders position themselves for the 2027 elections. Whether Nguna will heed the Wiper leader’s call remains unclear, but the developments are expected to significantly shape the political landscape in Kitui County and the wider Lower Eastern region in the months ahead.
