On August 7, 2026 – Kitui Deputy Governor Augustine Wambua Kanani on Friday joined Governor Dr. Julius Malombe during a development and projects commissioning tour in Nuu Ward, Mwingi Central Sub-County, as the county government stepped up efforts to deliver on the Kitui County Promise.
The tour provided an opportunity for Governor Malombe to engage residents and commission several projects aimed at improving education, water access and healthcare services across the ward.
Among the projects commissioned was a newly constructed and equipped laboratory at Yatwa Secondary School, a facility expected to enhance science education and improve the learning environment for students.
In the water sector, Governor Malombe commissioned the Kalumani–Kwa Kuli Borehole in Kyangati Village. The KSh5.6 million project has a capacity of seven cubic metres and includes a 3.4-kilometre rising main, a hybrid pumping system and two water kiosks, each equipped with a 10,000-litre storage tank.
The project is expected to improve access to clean, safe and reliable water for residents in the area.
The Governor also commissioned several health facilities and installations, including a maternity block, laboratory and four-door pit latrine at Kathanze Health Centre. The facility was constructed by the County Government of Kitui through the Equalisation Fund Programme.
At Nuu Level IV Hospital, Governor Malombe commissioned a new maternity wing and the renovation of the hospital’s drugs store, further strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the area.
The tour also took the county leadership to Mutyangome Dispensary, where a newly equipped maternity wing was commissioned to expand access to maternal healthcare services for residents.
Deputy Governor Wambua said the projects are part of the wider development programme being implemented across Nuu Ward and the county, noting that the investments demonstrate the impact of devolution at the grassroots.
The Nuu Ward tour forms part of the county government’s ongoing efforts to implement development projects under Governor Malombe’s administration, with a focus on improving service delivery and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
