Former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu has called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to take decisive action against camel herders accused of grazing their animals on farmers’ farms in Mutha, Kitui South , Kitui East and Mwingi North
Speaking during a women empowerment and public engagement forum at Mutha Playing Ground, hosted by Kitui South MP Dr. Racheal Kaki Nyamai, Mutambu said residents of Mutha, Kitui East and Mwingi Central deserve to live in peace and security like other Kenyans.
Mutambu said it was unfortunate that residents of Mutha were living in fear over alleged attacks and destruction of crops by camel herders.
He urged the government to intervene and ensure that farmers can access and cultivate their farms without interference.
Mutambu also expressed confidence that he will be elected Mwingi Central MP in the 2027 General Election, saying he remains committed to serving the people of the constituency.
His concerns were echoed by Dr. Racheal Nyamai and other speakers at the forum.
Nyamai challenged the Mutha OCS to take action against camels reportedly grazing on farmers’ farms in areas including Kyeni, Ikandani and Kivuioni.
The leaders called for urgent intervention by security agencies to address the conflict between farmers and camel herders and restore peace in the affected areas.
The forum attracted more than 5,000 residents of Mutha, who turned up for the women empowerment and public engagement meeting.
