Kitui East MP Hon. Nimrod Mbai has called on residents of camel menace-affected areas to unite politically and elect leaders who can effectively champion their security and development interests in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Mutha, Kitui South, during a women empowerment programme attended by fellow UDA leaders, Mbai said communities in Kitui South, Kitui East, Mwingi North and Mwingi Central have for decades faced insecurity, loss of lives and destruction of livelihoods linked to the camel menace.
Mbai urged residents to rally behind UDA candidates for parliamentary and MCA positions, saying their votes should be transformed into stronger political bargaining power and tangible development.
The legislator said one of his key priorities is to push for the establishment of a military training school at Malalani in Zombe Sub-County, Kitui East, which he said would enhance security while creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth in the region.
Mbai also commended President William Ruto for the deployment of more than 500 National Police Reservists to areas affected by insecurity, saying the move was an important step that should be complemented with permanent security solutions.
“This is bigger than an election. It is about converting our votes into political bargaining power and tangible development,” Mbai said.
He called for unity among residents, emphasizing the need for stronger representation, greater bargaining power and lasting security across the affected communities.
