Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe has officially launched the Kiimani Borehole Water Project in Mutha Ward, Kitui South, with the goal of enhancing access to clean and dependable water for both residents and local institutions.
This project, which was drilled and set up by the County Government of Kitui, was made possible through funding from the Equalisation Fund, totaling KSh4.895 million.
The borehole will benefit the Kiimani community, as well as Kiimani Primary School and Kiimani Secondary School, with plans for future connections to individual homes.
Powered by 18 solar panels, each generating 200 watts, the system boasts a total output of 3,600 watts. This solar-powered setup is designed to ensure a sustainable water supply while cutting down on the reliance on traditional energy sources.
Additionally, the project features a water pipeline, water-drawing points, and a cattle trough to cater to both domestic and livestock needs. The water from the borehole has been noted for its low turbidity levels, making it ideal for its intended purposes.
During the commissioning event on Friday, September 11, 2026, Governor Malombe emphasized his administration’s dedication to improving water access throughout Kitui County, especially in regions struggling with water shortages.
Among the attendees at the project launch was Area MCA Hon. Mwamisi, along with other local leaders.
