Former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of misleading Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and warning that the former Deputy President will eventually abandon him politically.
Mutambu, who is seeking to reclaim the Mwingi Central parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket, said Gachagua should stop holding Kalonzo back from engaging with the government, arguing that the political arrangement between the two leaders could damage Kalonzo’s ambitions to ascend to the presidency in 2027.
According to Mutambu, although he remains on a different political side from Kalonzo, he believes the Wiper leader should carefully reconsider his political alliances.
He claimed that Gachagua does not genuinely support Kalonzo’s presidential ambitions and will ultimately “dump” him when political interests change.«“Gachagua should stop misleading Kalonzo. He does not mean well for him.
Eventually, he will dump Kalonzo,” Mutambu said, challenging the former Deputy President to allow Kalonzo to make independent political decisions.»Mutambu made the remarks in Mathuki, Mui Ward, Mwingi Central, where he hosted the UDA Battalion during a women empowerment and public engagement forum targeting women and small-scale traders.
The meeting brought together a number of leaders seeking to strengthen the UDA and Kenya Kwanza presence in the region ahead of the 2027 General Election.Meanwhile, Kitui Central parliamentary hopeful Boniface Mutisya Musambi whipped the residents of Mwingi to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid, saying the leaders would thereafter push to secure Mwingi county.
The forum was led by Kitui South MP Dr Rachael Nyamai, who highlighted what she described as President Ruto’s development record across Kitui County and urged residents to unite behind his leadership ahead of the 2027 polls.
The gathering was attended by PS Jonathan Mueke, Hon. Nimrod Mbai, Senator Beth Syango, former Governor Peninah Malonza, Martha Mati, Ben Muasya, Hon. John Kisangau Mbaki, among other leaders and UDA supporters.
With the 2027 political battle already taking shape, Mutambu’s remarks inject a fresh dimension into the growing debate over Kalonzo’s alliances, Gachagua’s political strategy and the race for influence in Ukambani.
