Gov’t Extends University, TVET Funding Application Deadline to September 21

The Ministry of Education has extended the deadline for first-time university students and TVET trainees to apply for government funding to September 21, 2026.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migosi Ogamba said the extension was granted after some eligible students and trainees failed to meet the initial deadline of August 31.

A total of 789,422 funding applications had been received by the close of the initial application window.

The government has also disbursed KSh22.12 billion in first-semester/term funding to continuing university students and TVET trainees.

The Universities Fund and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) have been directed to facilitate the extended application window.

The Ministry clarified that applications by first-time applicants will continue to be processed under the current Student-Centred Funding Model, pending Parliament’s consideration of the Tertiary Education Placement and Funding Bill, 2026.

Students and TVET trainees who missed the initial deadline have been urged to apply before September 21.
