Machakos County Assembly has called for respect for the law, established protocols and the independence of the legislative arm of the county government following an incident involving Governor Wavinya Ndeti and her entourage on Monday, August 31, 2026.During a plenary sitting on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, presided over by Speaker Hon. Anne Kiusya, Members considered and approved a Motion on a Matter of County Importance arising from the events within the Assembly precincts.The Assembly deliberated on the circumstances surrounding Governor Wavinya and her entourage, accompanied by members of the media, entering the offices of the Speaker and the Clerk without following the established protocols governing access to the Assembly.Following the debate, the House recommended that all parties respect the law, dignity and institutional independence of the County Assembly and adhere to proper procedures when engaging with the Assembly.Members further called for prompt internal investigations, consideration of the matter by the Committee on Powers and Privileges, and an audit of media access to the Assembly precincts during the incident.Speaker Anne Kiusya said she remains committed to protecting the dignity, integrity and independence of the Machakos County Assembly, amid growing attention surrounding relations between the county’s executive and legislative arms.
