Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe has proudly kicked off some crucial water and road infrastructure projects in Mutha Ward. Among these is the newly opened Mathima Market Water Kiosk and the Kwa Mukala slab, as the county government intensifies its efforts to improve access to essential services for the local community.
The Mathima Market Water Kiosk, constructed by the County Government of Kitui through the Department of Water, was funded by the Kenya Devolution Support Programme (KDSP). This kiosk plays a vital role in the 27.5-kilometre Mutomo–Mathima–Kiati Water Pipeline Extension, which aims to deliver reliable water supplies to Mathima Shopping Centre and its surrounding areas.
Operated by the Kitui Water and Sanitation Company (KITWASCO), this facility is expected to serve about 1,200 people each day, significantly easing the water access challenges that residents have faced in the past. Additionally, Governor Malombe inaugurated the Kwa Mukala slab along the Kimuu–Kengo–Mathima Road.
This project is set to improve road connectivity, making it easier for residents, motorists, and traders to move around the area. These two initiatives are part of the county government’s larger commitment to investing in water and road infrastructure across Kitui, with a strong focus on expanding access to essential services and enhancing connectivity in rural communities.
The commissioning event took place on Friday, September 11, 2026, as part of Governor Malombe’s ongoing project launches in Mutha Ward, Kitui South.
