Migwani Level 4 Hospital in Mwingi West is set for a major upgrade following the handover of the site for the construction and equipping of new maternity, theatre and laboratory facilities, as well as a new entrance gate and cabro works.
The project, valued at approximately KSh70 million, is being undertaken through the M-PESA Foundation, with the initiative being associated with corporate leader Nicholas Muinde Mulila and his efforts to mobilise development partnerships for Kitui County.
The site handover and community sensitisation exercise are taking place at the hospital, marking the beginning of the implementation phase of the project. The planned facilities are expected to strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide maternal, surgical and laboratory services to residents of Migwani and surrounding areas.
Mulila has in recent years been involved in efforts to connect communities in Kitui with development partners, with supporters pointing to projects supported through the Safaricom Foundation and M-PESA Foundation as part of his contribution to development initiatives in the county.
The Migwani project adds to a growing list of development interventions involving private-sector and foundation partnerships in Kitui, particularly in health infrastructure and community services.
