Kitui South MP Dr Racheal Nyamai has challenged Senator Enoch Wambua over his recent remarks on President William Ruto’s development projects in Kitui, urging the senator to allow residents to benefit from ongoing infrastructure programmes regardless of political differences.
Nyamai spoke on Friday during an empowerment and public engagement forum at Kathivo Playing Ground, hosted by Kitui West parliamentary aspirant Commissioner Benedict Muasya. The meeting brought together several leaders, including Mwingi North MP aspirant Martha Mati, Senator Beth Syengo, Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon Kevin Kinengo and MCA Maluki.
The Kitui South MP took issue with Wambua’s reported remarks that President Ruto should halt development projects in Kitui because Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka would complete them if elected president in 2027.
Nyamai said such a position would be unfair to Kalonzo and, more importantly, to residents who have waited for improved infrastructure for years. She specifically pointed to the ongoing plans to upgrade the Kyuso–Tseikuru road, which leads towards Kalonzo’s rural home.
The road has been the subject of political debate since 2025. The Kenya National Highways Authority advertised the upgrade of the Kyuso–Tseikuru road to bitumen standards, alongside strengthening works on the Kandwia–Kyuso section.
“Stop being unfair to Kalonzo Musyoka,” Nyamai told the gathering, arguing that development should not be denied to an area simply because it serves the home area of a political opponent.
She further contrasted the situation with the tarmacked road network serving Senator Wambua’s home area in Kabati, questioning why residents around Tseikuru should not similarly welcome a national government road project.
For residents, the debate goes beyond political personalities. The Kyuso–Tseikuru corridor has for years been associated with poor road conditions, affecting movement, trade and access to services. Kalonzo himself previously recounted the long history of efforts to extend the tarmac towards Tseikuru.
Nyamai’s message was therefore that political competition should not stand in the way of development, particularly projects that directly affect ordinary residents who depend on roads, water, electricity and other public services.
