The 2027 parliamentary race in Kitui South is beginning to take shape, with a new opinion poll placing former Kitui South MP Dr. Rachael Kaki ahead of her closest challenger, Gladys Mami Kivoto.The survey by IdealMerit Africa gives Kaki, who is associated with the UDA party, 55.6 per cent of voter preference, while Kivoto of Wiper records 20.9 per cent.
The findings offer an early glimpse into how voters in the six wards of Kitui South are responding to the emerging political contest, months before the 2027 General Election. IdealMerit describes the results as an assessment of voter sentiment and candidate preference at this stage of the electoral cycle.According to the research firm, the survey involved 2,277 registered voters drawn from all six wards of the constituency.
Respondents were selected through what IdealMerit describes as a random sampling methodology designed to provide geographical coverage across Kitui South.For Kaki, the numbers provide an early indication of the level of support she commands as she seeks to remain a central figure in the constituency’s political conversation.
For Kivoto and other potential contenders, the figures highlight the size of the support gap reflected in the survey and the political ground that could become a focus as the campaign period approaches.
The poll, however, represents voter sentiment at the time the survey was conducted and should not be interpreted as a prediction of the 2027 election result.
Political preferences can change as campaigns unfold, candidates make their positions known and voters assess the issues that matter most to them.The Kitui South contest is therefore likely to remain closely watched as political activity gathers pace ahead of the 2027 polls.
