Former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu has hit back at Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua over remarks on President William Ruto’s development projects in the county, urging leaders to put the interests of ordinary residents ahead of political differences.
Speaking during an empowerment forum at Museve Grounds in Kitui Central, hosted by Kitui Central parliamentary aspirant Bonnie Musambi, Mutambu told Wambua to stop frustrating development projects that are benefiting the people of Kitui.
Mutambu’s remarks followed comments attributed to Senator Wambua, who suggested that President Ruto could halt development projects in the region if he wished, arguing that the people of Ukambani would vote for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2027 presidential election.
According to Wambua’s position, should Kalonzo ascend to the presidency, he would have the opportunity to complete the projects initiated by the current administration.
But Mutambu took issue with the argument, maintaining that development should not be held hostage to political calculations.
For residents of Kitui, where access to reliable water, better roads, electricity and improved public services remains a key concern, the political exchange touches on a question that affects their daily lives: whether development programmes should continue regardless of which political party commands local support.
Mutambu urged leaders to focus on ensuring that government projects reach the people, rather than engaging in political exchanges that could undermine ongoing development efforts.
The confrontation comes as political alignments in Ukambani begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders divided over President Ruto’s administration and Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential ambitions.
