Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA Hon. Mark Nding’o on Friday afternoon conducted a final inspection and handover of a street lighting project connecting South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) to Kwa Vonza town.
The project involved the installation of street lights along the road from the university towards Kwa Vonza, a move expected to improve visibility and enhance safety for students, residents and other road users, particularly during evening and night hours.
During the inspection, Nding’o assessed the completed works before the project was formally handed over. The lighting is expected to make movement along the busy corridor easier while creating a more secure environment for the university community and neighbouring residents.
For SEKU students, staff and residents living along the route, the improved lighting is expected to address concerns associated with poorly lit sections of the road, especially for those travelling between the university and Kwa Vonza town after dark.
Nding’o said the project reflects the importance of investing in infrastructure that directly improves the daily lives of residents and supports a safer environment around learning institutions and growing urban centres.
The completion of the street lighting project marks another step towards improving public infrastructure along the SEKU–Kwa Vonza corridor, with security and accessibility remaining key concerns for the rapidly developing area.
