Kitui Central MP hopeful Hon. Mike Young Lito has urged residents to remain calm but vigilant following confirmation of Kenya’s first imported Ebola case, which was reported in Nairobi on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Health confirmed that a Kenyan citizen who had travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive for Ebola and later died while receiving treatment in Nairobi.
In a health alert to residents of Kitui Central, Younger reassured the community that there was no confirmed Ebola case in Kitui, while encouraging residents to take basic precautions to protect themselves and their families.
“Let us stay calm but be very careful,” Younger told residents, urging them to make hygiene and early reporting of suspected symptoms a priority.

He advised residents to wash their hands regularly with soap and water, avoid contact with blood and other body fluids, and refrain from touching or consuming bushmeat or dead animals.
Younger also urged anyone who develops symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding to seek medical attention immediately rather than hiding the illness.
His message comes as Kenya strengthens surveillance and preparedness measures following the imported case. The World Health Organization says the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has expanded geographically, increasing the risk of cross-border transmission.
The Kitui Central politician called on residents to remain informed and avoid unnecessary panic, stressing that collective responsibility and early reporting can help protect families and the wider community.
