Kitui County Engages Women Traders on Finance Bill to Strengthen Public Participation

The County Government of Kitui, in partnership with the Institute of Public Finance (IPF), has engaged women traders in discussions on the 2026/2027 Finance Bill, seeking to ensure their views and concerns are considered in the county’s revenue policies.

The engagement forum, held in Kitui on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, aimed to gather feedback from women traders following the recently concluded public participation process and prepare them for further engagement with the County Assembly.

The meeting was led by Director Roselyne Kavata, alongside officers from the County Revenue Department and representatives of IPF, as part of broader efforts to promote inclusive decision-making and women’s economic empowerment.

Speaking during the forum, Director of Revenue Roseline Munyasya emphasised the importance of involving women traders in discussions on taxation and revenue collection, noting that financial policies can affect men and women differently.

The Institute of Public Finance is supporting women’s empowerment initiatives by creating opportunities for women traders to share their experiences, identify challenges and contribute ideas on revenue streams that directly affect their businesses.

The engagement also sought to address barriers that may hinder women’s tax compliance and economic participation, while helping traders better understand the proposed Finance Bill and its potential implications for their livelihoods.

Through the initiative, the County Government and IPF aim to strengthen public participation by ensuring women traders are informed, heard and actively involved in shaping county fiscal policies.

The meeting brought together women traders, county revenue officers and IPF representatives, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the county government and business communities in promoting inclusive economic growth.
