Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe on Friday, October 16, 2026, commissioned the opening of the 1.5-kilometre Syombuku–Kwa Mbaa Isika–Kwa Omari Road in Nzambani Ward, Kitui East Sub-County, in a move aimed at improving local connectivity and easing the movement of residents and goods.
The road project is expected to make daily movement easier for residents, particularly those who rely on local roads to access essential services, visit neighbouring villages and transport farm produce and other goods to markets. Improved road access is a key factor in supporting rural livelihoods and strengthening economic activities at the grassroots.
A major component of the project is the construction of a 60-metre drift across River Nzeeu, which will provide a designated crossing point along the route. The intervention is intended to address challenges associated with crossing the river and improve access for residents using the road.
The project also includes the installation of two culverts to improve drainage and help water flow across the road infrastructure. These drainage works are important in reducing water-related disruptions and improving the road’s usability, especially during rainy periods when poor drainage can make rural routes difficult to navigate.
The commissioning forms part of the development activities being undertaken by the Kitui County Government in Nzambani Ward. For residents along the Syombuku–Kwa Mbaa Isika–Kwa Omari corridor, the project represents an investment in local infrastructure designed to improve accessibility, facilitate the transportation of goods and support everyday movement within the community.
