Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna has declared that the Migwani Ward by-election will be decided by grassroots mobilisation, pointing to Migwani, Itoloni, Nzeluni, Nzatani and Ilalambyu locations as key battlegrounds in the race. Nguna’s remarks come amid intensified campaigns by supporters of UDA candidate Kimanzi Mwendwa, popularly known as Wetco Jnr, ahead of the November 17, 2026, by-election.

The ongoing mobilisation reportedly involves 2,156 leaders drawn from the five locations, with Team Wetco Jnr taking its campaign directly to villages and households. The strategy seeks to build personal connections with voters, understand their concerns and strengthen the candidate’s grassroots network as the contest gathers momentum.

From boda boda riders and mama mboga traders to young people, clergy members and community elders, the campaign is seeking to present Wetco Jnr as a candidate capable of bringing different sections of the community together. His supporters are emphasising unity, development and accessible leadership, arguing that residents want a representative who listens to their concerns and remains connected to the people beyond election day.

The village-to-village and door-to-door mobilisation reflects the growing importance of local networks in the Migwani race, where community influence and direct voter engagement could prove decisive. Nguna’s message, “Ground ndio kusema,” underscores the campaign’s belief that the strength of a candidate lies in the support they can demonstrate among ordinary residents and grassroots leaders.

With November 17 approaching, Team Wetco Jnr is intensifying efforts to consolidate support across the five locations. Whether the mobilisation will translate into votes remains to be determined at the ballot, but the campaign has made its ambition clear: to turn its grassroots presence into an electoral victory for Kimanzi Mwendwa, alias Wetco Jnr.
