Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA Hon. Mark Nding’o has strongly condemned the heckling of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during the launch of the Linda Mwananchi Movement, describing the incident as a sign of political intolerance and outdated political practices. Nding’o criticised the conduct of some supporters at the rally, saying political leaders should be allowed to express their views without intimidation or disruption.
In a strongly worded statement, the MCA accused some ODM supporters of embracing what he termed primitive political tactics aimed at intimidating leaders with divergent political opinions. He argued that heckling opponents does not demonstrate political strength but instead exposes a lack of respect for democratic engagement.
“These are the same ODM tactics of doing politics. They are outdated, primitive and can only be used by lazy politicians who think they can only ascend to leadership through blackmailing others. Sifuna should control his supporters if he wants to be respected by others,” Nding’o stated.
The incident occurred when Kalonzo attempted to drum up support for himself while addressing the gathering during the movement’s launch. Some sections of the crowd reportedly heckled the Wiper leader, prompting Senator Edwin Sifuna to intervene and urge supporters to allow Kalonzo to finish his speech.
Nding’o’s remarks add another political dimension to the growing debate surrounding political tolerance, opposition unity and leadership within the emerging Linda Mwananchi movement. The incident has also raised questions about how leaders from different political formations can share platforms and engage in political discussions without hostility, especially as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
