Decorated and certified public accountant CPA John Makau Kimwele has declared his interest in the Mwingi Central parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for a potentially competitive race under the Wiper Democratic Movement ticket. Makau is seeking to build his campaign around one central message: restoring Mwingi Central’s lost glory through responsible leadership, economic revival and renewed investor confidence.
Makau says Mwingi Central needs a fresh development agenda that puts economic opportunities, job creation and improved livelihoods at the centre of leadership. He has openly welcomed investors into the constituency, arguing that attracting private investment is key to unlocking its economic potential and creating opportunities for local residents.
The CPA has also challenged politicians to stop intimidating, discouraging or chasing away investors for political reasons. He argues that investors should be welcomed and protected rather than treated as political targets, warning that hostility towards business people only undermines development and denies residents much-needed employment opportunities. His remarks come amid concerns over incidents of goonism and insecurity, which have continued to damage Mwingi Central’s investment image.

His entry into the race also comes at a politically sensitive moment within Wiper, where internal disagreements have increasingly attracted public attention. Party leader and Opposition chief Dr Kalonzo Musyoka recently reprimanded outgoing Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi over his continued political attacks against fellow Wiper leaders, highlighting growing tensions within the party as 2027 approaches.
With the Mwingi Central parliamentary contest beginning to take shape, Makau is positioning himself as a candidate offering an alternative development conversation anchored on investment, economic growth and restoring public confidence. Whether his message of restoring Mwingi Central’s lost glory will resonate with voters remains to be seen, but his entry adds another dimension to the constituency’s unfolding 2027 political contest.
