Kitui businessman Mutisya Mwema has officially signalled his entry into the 2027 Kitui Central parliamentary race in a colourful show of support, after a neighbourhood meeting he had convened to announce his political ambitions attracted more than 3,000 people. What was expected to be a local gathering turned into a major political event at his home in Wanzua, with residents and community leaders turning up to hear his plans for the constituency.
Speaker after speaker praised Mwema for his record of supporting people across Kitui Central and beyond, portraying him as a businessman whose influence extends beyond commercial interests. They cited his personal engagements and support for members of the community as reasons they believe he deserves an opportunity to represent the constituency in Parliament.
The meeting also witnessed a significant political shift, with some opinion leaders who had previously supported rival aspirants openly declaring their support for Mwema. The leaders argued that his personal contribution to their lives and the wider community had made a stronger impression on them than the promises of some candidates already seeking the seat.
In a show of confidence, residents at the gathering unanimously endorsed Mwema’s bid, describing him as a trusted son of the community with a demonstrated commitment to the people. Their message was clear: they want leadership that goes beyond campaign promises and is grounded in relationships, service and tangible support for ordinary residents.
The meeting was attended by former Kitui Mayor Kivala Nzuki, alongside other community leaders and opinion shapers. Mwema’s entry now adds another contender to the contest for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat ahead of the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for what could become an increasingly competitive race.
