President William Ruto has led the country in mourning 17 Catholic pilgrims who lost their lives in a tragic road accident at Salama while travelling to the National Shrine in Subukia for the National Prayer Day.
The victims were members of St. Mathias Mulumba Catholic Church, Mikindani Parish, whose journey of faith ended in tragedy, leaving families, friends and the wider Catholic community devastated by the loss.
In his condolence message, President Ruto expressed deep sorrow over the deaths, sending his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, fellow parishioners and all those affected by the tragedy.
The President stood in solidarity with the Catholic community during this difficult moment, praying that God grants the grieving families strength, comfort and peace as they come to terms with the painful loss of their loved ones.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries in the accident, expressing hope that they would receive the care and support needed during their recovery.
The tragedy has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a spiritual journey, turning a pilgrimage to a national prayer gathering into a moment of grief for the affected families and the church.
As the nation mourns alongside the Catholic community, prayers continue for the departed souls and for the healing of those injured in the crash.
May the souls of the 17 departed pilgrims rest in eternal peace, and may their families find strength during this difficult time.
