Kitui County joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Hypertension Day on May 15, with leaders and health stakeholders calling for collective action in the fight against high blood pressure and other non-communicable diseases.
The event, held under the theme “Controlling Hypertension Together,” was attended by healthcare partners, medical professionals and members of the public. Kitui County Executive Committee Member for Health, Madam Ruth Koki, represented Governor Dr. Julius Malombe during the celebrations and reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services and public awareness campaigns.
Speaking during the event, health officials emphasized the importance of regular blood pressure screening, healthy lifestyles, proper nutrition and physical activity in preventing hypertension-related complications such as stroke, heart disease and kidney failure. Stakeholders also urged residents to seek early diagnosis and treatment, noting that many people live with hypertension without knowing it.
The awareness campaign brought together several organizations and partners working alongside the Ministry of Health to improve prevention and management of non-communicable diseases in Kitui County and across the country.
