The Residents of Ikanga/Kyatune Ward are set to benefit from improved healthcare services following the official handover of the site for the removal of hazardous asbestos iron sheets and re-roofing works at Ikanga Level 4 Hospital.

The exercise, spearheaded by the office of Ikanga/Kyatune Ward MCA Hon. Cyrus Musyoka alias Sonko, marks a significant milestone in efforts to improve health and safety standards at the facility. Hon. Sonko noted that the project has been among his key priorities since his election in 2022, citing the dangers posed by prolonged exposure to asbestos materials.

Speaking during the handover, the MCA emphasized that the project will help reduce serious health risks, including lung cancer and other respiratory illnesses associated with asbestos exposure. He reaffirmed his commitment to transforming and modernizing health facilities across Ikanga/Kyatune Ward to ensure residents access safer and better healthcare services.

Hon. Sonko also credited Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe for supporting the initiative, alongside County Executive Committee Member for Health Madam Ruth Koki, Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr. Musyoka, CO Kamba, and CO Kitwan for their collaborative efforts in making the project a reality.

The re-roofing works are expected to greatly improve the hospital’s infrastructure and create a safer environment for both patients and healthcare workers.
