BREAKING: Kitui Speaker Kevin Kinengo Quits Wiper, Joins UDA, Declares Senate Bid

Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya has officially defected from the Wiper patrotic front to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking a significant political shift in Kitui County ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kinengo’s departure is expected to reshape the county’s political landscape, dealing a major setback to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, whose party has traditionally enjoyed strong support across Kitui County.

The Speaker’s move comes after months of reported disagreements with the Wiper leadership over his growing association with the Kenya Kwanza administration. His close working relationship with President William Ruto had fueled speculation that he was preparing to leave the opposition party.

Speaking on Sunday during an event attended by President Ruto, Kinengo formally announced that he will contest the Kitui Senate seat in the 2027 General Election on a UDA ticket.

His declaration sets the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive Senate race as political realignments continue to gather momentum across the Ukambani region.

Kinengo becomes one of the most high-profile leaders from Kitui to join UDA, a move likely to intensify political competition between the ruling party and Wiper as preparations for the 2027 polls gain pace.
