Commissioner Ben Muasya Calls for Greater Access to Public Service Opportunities for Youth

Commissioner Ben Muasya has challenged leaders to prioritize empowering young people by ensuring they have access to information, guidance and mentorship needed to secure employment opportunities, saying many deserving graduates are being left behind due to a lack of awareness rather than a lack of ability.

Speaking during the Kamba Business Connect Forum, Muasya observed that the Public Service Commission advertises thousands of internship opportunities every year, yet many qualified graduates from the Ukambani region fail to apply or successfully compete because they are not adequately informed or prepared.

He described the situation as a major injustice, arguing that the greatest barrier facing many young people is not the absence of opportunities but the lack of access to timely information, career guidance and support systems that can help them navigate recruitment processes.

“Our responsibility as leaders is to ensure that every qualified young person knows about these opportunities, is prepared to compete fairly and receives the mentorship needed to transition from the classroom to the workplace,” Muasya said.

The commissioner emphasized that leadership should extend beyond political campaigns and become a platform for connecting young people with life-changing opportunities in government and other sectors. He urged leaders to focus on practical initiatives that improve the livelihoods of the youth.

Muasya further noted that investing in young people through internships, mentorship and career development strengthens communities by equipping graduates with the skills and experience needed to contribute to national development and economic growth.

He concluded by stating that empowering the youth should never be viewed as a political favour but as a long-term investment in the future of the community, reaffirming his commitment to championing initiatives that expand opportunities for young people.
