A water project at Bidii Joint Women Group in Kauwi, Kitui West, is transforming the lives of local women by turning access to water into an opportunity for improved food security and livelihoods.
With support from The Brooke East Africa and Caritas Kitui, the women are using the available water productively to grow vegetables while also meeting essential domestic needs. The initiative has provided the group with a reliable water source, easing the burden of accessing water and creating opportunities for household economic empowerment.
Through vegetable farming, the women are now able to produce nutritious food for their families, strengthen household food security and generate income from surplus produce. The project demonstrates how reliable access to water can go beyond addressing basic needs to support sustainable livelihoods and community resilience.
For the Bidii Joint Women Group, water has become a foundation for dignity, hope and self-reliance. The initiative highlights the transformative impact of investing in community-led water projects, particularly in arid and semi-arid areas where water scarcity continues to affect livelihoods.
