Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya joined the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) delegation led by Chairperson Hon. Seth Mwatela Kamanza at the 30th Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) meeting held in Karen, Nairobi.
The high-level meeting was hosted and chaired by Deputy President H.E. Prof. Kithure Kindiki, bringing together key actors within Kenya’s intergovernmental framework to deliberate on matters affecting governance, public finance and the implementation of devolution.
The CAF delegation’s participation underscored the important role of county assemblies in strengthening intergovernmental relations and ensuring that county governments have the necessary resources and frameworks to effectively deliver services to citizens.
Among the key issues discussed were public finance management, productivity and measures aimed at improving the effective implementation of devolution across the country.
The IBEC meeting provides an important platform for consultation between the national and county governments on matters of shared interest, including resource allocation, fiscal management and the coordination of development programmes.
Speaker Kinengo’s participation also highlights the role of the Kitui County Assembly in national conversations on devolution and the strengthening of county governance structures.
The meeting comes at a time when county governments continue to advocate for predictable and adequate resources to enable them to meet their constitutional mandates and respond effectively to the needs of their residents.
Through such engagements, county leaders seek to strengthen cooperation between the two levels of government while advancing the principles of devolution and improving service delivery to Kenyans.
