Malombe leads Kitui Mps in Talks with Tana River Leaders to Foster Peace Along Border

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024 -Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, in partnership with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), co-chaired the Kitui Political Leaders Stakeholders Meeting in Nairobi to address ongoing conflicts and promote peaceful coexistence between communities living along the Kitui and Tana River County border.

The meeting, held at the NCIC offices, brought together key leaders and stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable and lasting solutions to the frequent skirmishes that have resulted in loss of life and property in the region.NCIC Chairperson Dr. Rev. Samuel Kobia reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to resolving the disputes, addressing root causes of the conflict, and ensuring peace-building efforts are prioritized.

“We are working closely with the National Survey of Kenya to resolve boundary issues and address concerns related to disarmament in game reserves. Our goal is to promote dialogue and reconciliation among the affected communities,” he said.

The session included a review of past NCIC interventions, which included visits to both counties and discussions with security teams. The leaders emphasized the importance of fostering trust, mutual understanding, and dialogue between the two communities to prevent further conflict.Among the dignitaries present were Kitui MPs Dr. Makali Mulu (Kitui Central), Dr. Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South), Charles Nguna (Mwingi West), Dr. Gedion Mulyungi (Mwingi Central), and Eng. Paul Nzengu (Mwingi North).

Other notable attendees included Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, Kitui County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto, County Minister Gitonga Nkunda, and Chief Officer Stephen Salee.

The meeting marked a crucial step toward finding long-term solutions to the border conflict, with stakeholders pledging to collaborate and intensify peace-building initiatives.
